AMR Softec – A Web Design Company in India is feeling highly proud while sharing this historic news with all fellow Indians. We are walking on the moon now!
On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, India’s Chandrayaan-3 finally touched down softly on the region of the Moon’s South Pole after a 40-day wait. The Chandrayaan 3 lander, which contained a rover, landed on the Moon’s surface at 6:04 p.m., according to the ISRO. On July 14, Chandrayaan-3—whose name means “moon vehicle” in Sanskrit—launched from a launchpad in Sriharikota.
Creating History
- As a result of the Chandrayaan 3 mission’s accomplishment, India is now the only nation to have successfully landed a spacecraft on the Moon’s South Pole.
- Along with China, India is now the second nation to have an operational rover on the moon.
- India is become the fourth nation to make a soft landing on the moon. This milestone has already been reached by China, the United States, and the Soviet Union.
Amazing Facts about India’s Chandrayaan-3
Vikram and Pragyan
With a mass of 1749.86 kg and Rover Pragyan onboard, the Vikram lander has a mission life of one lunar day or 14 days on Earth.
Duties of Rover on Moon’s surface
- The density of the Moon’s surface near-surface plasma (ions and electrons) will be measured by this Indian spacecraft.
- Chandrayaan-3 will monitor the seismic activity near the Moon’s landing site. The mission will contribute to the understanding of the types of compounds present in the lunar soil.
- The elemental makeup of the lunar soil and rocks at the lunar landing site, including magnesium, aluminum, silicon, potassium, calcium, titanium, and iron, will be determined by an APXS (Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer).
The team behind the mission
ISRO Chairman S Somanath assumed leadership of ISRO in January 2022 and became a pivotal figure in India’s ambitious moon mission. Before this role, he had served as the director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. He is overseeing missions like Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1 (a mission to study the Sun), and Gaganyaan (India’s first manned mission).
Other significant people behind Chandrayaan-3 are
- P. Veeramuthuvel – Project Director
- S. Unnikrishnan Nair – Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre
- M. Sankaran, Director of U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC)
- Ritu Srivastava – Senior Scientist
- Dr. K. Kalpana – Deputy Project Manager

India in space so far
- India’s first lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, was launched from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on October 22, 2008. Using information from the Chandrayaan-1 satellite, India discovered frozen water deposits for the first time in the coldest and darkest regions of the Moon’s Polar Regions in 2009.
- India launched a vehicle into orbit around Mars in 2014, making it the first Asian country to do so.
- 2019 saw the launch of Chandrayaan-2 by ISRO, ten years after the initial mission. But in the final lap, the lander with the rover in its belly slammed into the lunar surface, failing to achieve its goal of a soft touchdown.
Not so expensive
The Chandrayaan-3 mission cost for ISRO is approximately Rs. 650 Crore, which is significantly less than that of other nations and evidence of India’s thrifty space engineering. It’s interesting to note that ISRO’s Chandrayan-3 is less expensive than a lot of Hollywood productions.
Conclusion
Hours after Chandrayaan-3 accomplished its historic Moon landing, the Pragyan rover has rolled out from the Vikram lander and will now begin roaming around on the lunar surface. It was very beautiful to observe the young Indian’s joyful expressions throughout the launch and successful landing. The achievement of Chandrayaan-3 demonstrated to young people all around India that superior scientific research can be conducted here in India and have a positive impact. Just like 1.4 billion Indians, AMR Softec – the best web design company in India is also looking forward to making India a great nation in the fields of space and technology.
